All leagues below the National Football League North and South have been called off as the coronavirus continues its decimation of the sporting calendar.
On Thursday afternoon the FA announced its decision to cancel the National League system below steps 1 and 2, meaning that there will be no promotion or relegation of clubs between NLS Steps 3 to 6, as well as no promotion to NLS Step 2.
Meanwhile, all tiers below the Women’s Super League and the Championship have also been called off while the governing body works out how to complete the season at the top level.

The FA announced that there will be no promotions or relegations between NLS Steps 3 and 6
There had been concerns that, with ten clubs battling for promotion to League Two, the National League would be cancelled.
However, a meeting between the EFL and FA resulted in the decision to align the league with the rest of the English Football League in order to allow the season to be completed.
An FA statement read: ‘Today’s steps take into account the financial impact during this uncertain period, whilst considering the fairest method on how the sporting outcomes for the season will be decided with the integrity of the leagues in mind.
Leagues below the WSL and the Championship have also been called off in the women’s game
‘The FA and NLS steps three to six have reached a consensus that their 2019-20 season will now be brought to an end, and all results will be expunged. This will mean no promotion or relegation of clubs between NLS steps three to six, and no promotion to NLS step two.’
With regard to women’s football, the FA said: ‘The FA and the leagues within tiers three to seven have reached a consensus to bring the season to an immediate end and all results will be expunged. This will mean no promotion or relegation of clubs between tiers three to seven.’
While the FA has made one key decision with regards to action below NLS Step 2, question marks remain over whether the Premier League and EFL seasons will be completed.
Sportsmail revealed on Thursday that the April 30 date of resumption of football set out will not be met and that date will be extended when clubs meet next week.
